The Power Of Sacrificial and Unconditional Love

Beginning at John 12:12, we learn of Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem on a donkey to shouts of Hosanna. John suggests that he did so to fulfill the prophecy: “Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion, Look your king is coming sitting on a donkey’s colt.” — Zech. 9:9

Probably he is right, he ought to know. But, I can’t help but think of all the movies depicting the conquering Romans entering a city like in Ben-Hur with trumpets blaring, drums beating, chariots and horses, and men in full battle gear. There is no doubt to all who watch such scene who represents power and victory.

Contrast that to Jesus on a donkey with a few friends waving palms. Maybe that was Jesus’s point. The Roman entry reflects the power of worldly wealth and power, but it is temporary and fleeting. Where Jesus’s entry represents the real and lasting power of sacrificial love. It’s power is everlasting.

Think about the power of sacrificial and unconditional love in your life. Hasn’t it stayed with you all your life, where all worldly goods and offices are only temporary. I certainly know the difference, and what remains of value. I bet you do too.
