A Person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It’s
jolted by every pebble on the road. — Henry Ward Beecher.
A long time ago my daughter had to write an essay on “What She Never Wanted To Lose.” Good question don’t you think? Well she wrote that the one thing she never wanted to lose was her southern accent. It must have been very good essay because it got her into the college of her choice.
I think if I were to answer the question on the top of my list it would be my sense of humor. Like most of us I’ve encountered a lot of pebbles in my shoes and several cockleburs. Without my sense of humor, I may not have endured my sabbatical, transplant surgery, and years of investigations and harassment. My family and I find comfort not only in God but in humor. We looked for humor in everything that happened and it served us well.
Suzy and I still read all the comics in the paper and have our entire marriage. They cushion us from all the jolts that the daily news brings. I think God must have a great sense of humor, why else would he put up with all the ridiculous things we humans do. Humor must cushion God to deal with human jolts.
In your daily meditation concentrate on something that you think is funny or humorous. When you do its okay to laugh during your meditation.
