When Old Men Plant Trees

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. — Anon.

If there is one thing I have noticed it is that each generation seems more and more interested in the immediate. Instant gratification has creeped into every aspect of our lives, much like Armadillos have started showing up in states surrounding Texas.

I spent some time today thinking about planting seeds and trees in every aspect of my life, not for me, not for my children, but for my grandchildren. It certainly should make its way to the top of my New Year’s resolutions. (Can you believe New Year’s is less than two months away?).

I certainly pray that our new leaders begin to look beyond their noses about the direction of our country, but politics is not a proper subject for the Pew. although a political Armadillo creeps in every now and then.

This morning as you meditate consider planting a few trees.
