Over eight years ago I received a small gift — a pill box that allows you to store a week’s worth of pills by day and time they should be taken. I was in the hospital when I received it from CVS, and I couldn’t leave the hospital until I learned which pills went where. Hardly the most expensive gift I ever received, but valuable in many more respects. For the last eight years, I pull that box out of my side drawer once a week and refill it. It visually reminds me when I forget to take a pill, and that happens more than once. The amount of pills I take have been reduced quite a bit, but I still use it every day.
You might ask why don’t I get a new box, one that’s not so cumbersome or after eight years less dirty and worn. Probably just about everything I own and use has been replaced since I received “my pill box.”
There is a good reason. That pill box is a daily reminder of a much greater gift I received the same week I got my pill box a new liver. A gift from George and his family. The little pill box reminds me to be grateful to God, George, George’s family, and some damn fine surgeons.
On this week of Thanksgiving, we often are thankful for the gifts of God, family, and abundance. This year also think about some little gifts you received that hold a special place in your heart. For me, the first on that list is a little pill box I received from CVS on June 23rd, 2000.
Mr. Hubbell, good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
About 3 years ago Bill Goodyear introduced me to you & your “Pew” and I read it faithfully. So many strike nerves, remind, and evoke deep emotion. Today’s hit the latter with laser accuracy, as I am a hopeless sentimentalist. Thank you for the Pew, it feeds, and makes me better.
Alert: one way or another, I will meet you face-to-face.. wonder if that could happen before Christmas?
Blessings to you,
Drakester
Drake, you just gave a wonderful Thanksgiving gift. Thank you. Love to have a cup of coffee. Email me at [email protected] if that works for you. W.
