A self that goes on changing is a self that goes on living. — Virginia Woolf.
As I get older, I find I resist change more and more. Change makes me uncomfortable, yet uncomfortable is exactly what I need. When I meditate on my resistance to change, I think my attraction to permanency and stability is driven by my desire to be live longer. I fear change will expose me to danger. Yet resistance to change does not overcome mortality, just the opposite. If we aren’t open to change, our existence becomes a living death, complacent and stagnate. The more we change the more we live.
Emerson said, “People wish to be settled; only as they are unsettled is there any hope for them.”
So as I begin this week of meditation and prayer, I ask, “Where have I become stagnate and how do I change?
Loved this one, Webb, and oh so true if sometimes challenging to accommodate!
