“Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy.” — Albert Camus.
My book club has been reading about the philosophy of stoicism for the last weeks, and one cannot read a page of quotes without coming across philosophy and philosophers. The science of philosophy is a worthwhile study given the time; however, for most people the weightier questions of philosophy are put aside for the daily grind of feeding the family and surviving one day at a time. There hasn’t been much philosophy written by single mothers or men working in the coal mines.
That’s one of the many reasons God sent us Jesus. He put forth a philosophy that is simple in its language and in its truth — Love God and love thy neighbor as thyself. It is a philosophy that the poorest of the poor or the hardest working man on the chain gang can understand and follow.
I don’t mean to denigrate the science of philosophy, and its weighty questions are worthy of all of us. But when time fails us, we always have a fall back — Love they neighbor as thyself.
