Anthony Doerr’s best seller, All the Light We Cannot See, is a best seller and award winner. Besides his prose, I am drawn to the novel’s title. How often do we ignore the light inside our neighbor or family member.
God places a large degree of light in each of us, and yes eventhough life can darken or hide, that light it still exists, we just cannot see it. Sometimes it is up to us to peel away the light’s covering. How we do that varies from individuals. Some of the greatest stories ever written involve someone whose light has been extinguished or hidden from sight. Beauty and the Beast is one example, but I bet you can think of many others.
Our obligation is to seek out the light in everyone we meet, and when we encounter someone whose life is clouded by darkness to clear away whatever is blocking that light. When we do we not lonely will bask in a new light, but our own light shines even brighter.
