Suzy reminds me that during any natural disaster we at first are excited, but after a few days it becomes the new norm. In some ways sheltering in place is becoming the new normal. Traffic is non-existent, we take walks, friends check in, but we don’t get together with friends for drinks or dinner out. Families with children are adjusting to classes on line while parents are glued to work computers.
But for so many the new normal is also filled with fear. Their jobs are gone, there is no money in the bank, children do not understand why if school is out they have to study or worse why they are left alone while Mom/Dad is off at work. Each of you is adjusting to the new norm.
I still believe a lot of good will come out of this new norm, our priorities have shifted, we value out family more, and we adapt and change. Lent is usually a time for adjustments and change brought on by our willingness to improve spiritually and in so many other ways. This year circumstances have taken over our lent and caused us to focus on the Lenten disciplines of service, prayer, sacrifice, and worship. Not such a bad thing after all.
