For I was envious of the the arrogant; I saw the prosperity of the wicked. — Psalm 73:3.
Envy creeps into each of us from time to time, and is hard to get rid of much like an annoying mosquito bite. We see out the window the neighbor’s new Tesla, an annoying acquaintance makes the best seller list, and yes every now and then the truly wicked seem to rise to the top of the ladder.
The psalmist continues for many verses on how the wicked are prosperous and the psalmist’s envy is most apparent until he comes to his senses and says, “if I had said, “I will talk on this way, I would have been untrue to the circle of your children.” (Psalm 73:15). Sometime we can’t let it go like the psalmist. My friend Eric reminds me that “the author of Proverbs says envy “makes the bones rot.” Envy is a sin and a deadly one at that. To envy means we are out of sorts with God.”
In these difficult times it is easy to look out the window at others with judgment and envy, but instead we should look inward with love.
Good thoughts; I only envy those with excellent health, wish then well, hope they maintain it and work as best I can to get there myself!
