…for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself…. — Romans 2:1
There is a lot of judging, labeling, and name calling these days from all persuasions. It is easy to do, and I am as guilty as the next. This verse from Romans reminds me of the old adage that when you point your finger at someone three fingers are pointing back at you. Every time we judge or label we must first search our own heart and soul and ask, “am I free from the same sin?”
I also find it interesting how so much judgment is going on these days about people and actions in the past. We need to be especially careful about making judgments and attaching labels to people in the past based on current standards of conduct. I’m not saying some actions aren’t worthy of judgment, but I suggest care. We don’t know what it was like to walk in our ancestors shoes.
As a rule when we judge conduct, not people, we are less likely to end up condemning ourselves.
