Going home. Today we are on our last leg of our
travels to my South. I have gathered material and have consulted with the
eleven year old philosophers. Their wisdom will enure to our benefit far into the
future. However, my mind today turns home as I enter Holy Week, in addition to
it being our physical destination. I think about the words “going
home.” I have a new “home” now. I have only been in Charlotte
for a few months so despite my new drivers license is it my “home?”
When I hear the words – “going home” I think of my Mother’s last
words. She was asked in the hospital where she was going. She responded, “I
am going home.” I don’t think she was talking about Little Rock or her
birthplace, Memphis. I think about the novel, Look Homeward Angel. During Lent,
I think about Christ’s words that he was going home to his father The word
“home” is a unique word. This simple word has a different meaning to
every single person. Even if it is the same country, city, town, or house, the
word “home” has a different meaning or invokes different emotions.
The word “home” is similar to one’s faith or religion. Each
individual’s faith is slightly different, invokes a different emotion, and is
unique. We might all be part of a group that were born in the U.S. and call it
our native country, but the smilarities stop there. The same goes for Christians,
Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Sufis, etc. During Holy Week ,we
come to our unique home with God. He created us, accpts us, and loves us. This is a home we can always come home to again and again.
