In 1977 there was a wonderful movie called The Turning Point starring Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine. Now, you may not think of me as a ballet fan, but I loved it and it did make Mikhail Baryshnikov an household heartthrob. It was about a former dancer that’s forced to confront the decision to leave the stage to have a family. We all have turning points in our lives, as does history. The real turning point in our lives is less likely to be the day we win an election or get that promotion we wanted, and more likely that day you didn’t send that letter you wrote, or stayed home and watched the first winter snow cover the trees. These moments are apt to take place when we’re looking the other way. So be watchful.
