Little Things

Whoever is faithful in a very little, is faithful in much. — Luke 16:10

For those of you who watch the Inauguration today, and even if you don’t, behind the scenes are many people doing small things to make a big event happen smoothly.
Consider the person who puts out the chairs on the inaugural podium. If there is one chair missing an awkward scene can destroy the whole day.
One too many chairs, can be almost as awkward. The cameras will zoom in on the empty chair, wondering who is boycotting the ceremony.
Multiply those chair placers by hundreds probably thousands and understand that each is entrusted with a little, but also in very much.
Whether the President is someone I’ve supported most of my adult life, or someone who makes me nervous and fearful, I celebrate today those who have been entrusted with a little.
God entrusts us with little tasks each day — it can be setting up chairs at a soup kitchen, dropping a note to a friend who is ill, or remembering to smile and tell the woman at the cash register thank you.
As a parent and a grandparent one of my most important tasks is to instill in my children the importance of the little things.
God entrusts our President with the World’s future, but first, may he never forget to remember and thank the people who put out the chairs.
