Check In With An Old Friend

You know how good it feels to hear from an old friend after a long drought. It adds a spring to your step and tends to wipe out a few doubts about where you are right now.

Lent is a time to check in with a very old friend who follows your activities and movements, but often waits for you to make contact — God.

Though prayer, service to your neighbor, or simply a casual chat during a walk in the evening breeze, you check in with a friend who loves you unconditionally and will always be present when you need. We tend to think of a Lent as a time to sacrifice, to give up cookies or wine, but I think God would prefer we use a little bit of the energy we use to sacrifice to make contact instead.

You know how good it feels to hear from an old friend, well God is the same way. Check in with him, you might be surprised to find out what God has been up to these days.
