Insignificant and Significant At the Same Time

I watched a fascinating show on PBS the other night called When Whales Walked. The film took four species, birds, elephants, crocodiles, and whales back to their origins and traced their evolution even through the five periods of extinction. I think it is well worth your time and thought. As Suzy said, it made you feel pretty insignificant when the show talked in terms of tens of millions of years.

Humans are so unique in God’s world of creatures for we can be insignificant in the grand scheme, but at the same time each and every one of us is significant. We can and often do make a difference in the world. For example the show points out that elephants survived five periods of extinction, but they may not survive the human period.

It is a mistake for any of us to think we are insignificant. God gave each of us a unique and special purpose at our birth. It is our duty tossed out that purpose and then act on it as best we can. What is your purpose?
