Fresh Starts

Search for the Lord and his strength…. — Psalm 105:4.

I have been thinking about fresh starts lately. When you reach my age people don’t often think about fresh starts, but in reality they can occur anytime.

I know that there is really no such thing as a “fresh start,” our past, our health, our mistakes are part of who we are, but nothing about our past prevents us from starting “afresh.” Perhaps “afresh” is a better description and word. People start afresh after divorces, tragic losses, and huge bumps in the road. None of us are prevented from beginning afresh. That applies to those who are not recovering from something terrible, but they just want to “do something different.”

I remember friends who changed their jobs or lives during their forties. We used to call it the “middle-age crazies.” Sometimes the change was indeed crazy, but a lot of time the change was healthy and good.

So is it too late to start afresh, even at my age? Is it too late for you? The answer is always — “Never!”

So how do you begin. The psalmist gives us the answer — “Search for the Lord and his strength.”
