Repentance and Forgiveness

… repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations…. — Luke 24:47.

It’s been over 2000 years, and I’m sure we aren’t there yet. We still judge, punish, and fail to forgive others or ourselves. Ask yourself whether you turn away from your neighbor when he or she crosses the line. Most of our societies punish wrongdoers for lifetimes. The idea of paying one’s debt to society is pure fiction. Giving someone a second chance is viewed as being naive and foolish.

Jesus suffered for us all. He didn’t limit forgiveness to the perfect. He offers a fresh start to the worst among us, as well as the best. We owe it to God and our neighbors to do the same.
