Comment from Tom Re: Tote Sack

Webb,

I loved this email…. you are sounding more like an Episcopalian Sufi every day!  (smile)  Everything I’ve read on the subject in the Sufi works give the same message that your Grandmother gave you.  I don’t know about Muhammad’s quote, but given the other Sufi writings, many of which come out of the Islam tradition, I wonder if it suggests, given God’s love, that the suggested terrible day in human history will never happen.  Alternatively, given the apparent trend, particularly in this country, of people giving up, becoming grossly obese, opting for Welfare, depleting self esteem… that appears to be a choice – whether personal or societal -rather than what is available to us as part of God’s gifts.  I certainly can’t judge people that end up there, but there does seem to be a terrible day for some who are choosing that path.
