Tuesday in the First Week of Lent

Have you ever visited a family with a young children. Things may be going well when you hear a crash, a scream, or worse. Then you hear a patient mother saying something like, “How many times have I told you not to bite? No hitting? Or, I warned you that you were going to get hurt.” The words are usually followed with a “time-out,” a “go to your room”, or the child lashing out with “screaming, yelling, or I hate you!” Then after time we get the inevetable “I’m sorries, ot the warmth of a mother’s long hug and kisses.” All of this is usually accompanied with a someone saying or thinking, “what kind of lesson are you teaching that child when bad behavior is followed by love and affection.”

Someday when a mother here’s such a comment she’ll respond, “The same lesson God teaches me every day.” A mother’s love is always present just like God’s. No matter how many times we disobey, promise to behave and then don’t, or cry out in anger, God doesn’t withold his love when we return to his comfort.
