Love and Marriage

Fifteen years ago our son and daughter-in-law were married. They celebrate their anniversary today. I have to admit that I don’t remember if 1 Corinthians 13 was read at their service, but I’ve certainly attended many a wedding where it has.

Paul wrote about love and all it is and all it is not. As a witness at a wedding ceremony we are also reminded that each and every one of us was created in love. God did not need us, God loved us into being. The wedding ceremony reminds us to live in love.

Usually during the wedding homily the preacher reminds the couple that love lived out intentionally is hard, and that envy, boastfulness, resentment and arrogance are not part of love. They break down love if you let them.

The wedding reminders apply to us all, whether we are married or not. In fact, God loves you even more than the loving couple at the altar love each other at that wonderful moment, even though they don’t think that’s possible. It is up to each of us to live that same kind of love every day of our lives.

Congratulations, Missy and Walter your love is an example to us all.
