Restlessness

If in any hour our mind is disturbed, we need to switch harmonies. How do we remedy restlessness? When I was learning centering prayer our instructor told us that amongst the silence often our mind will wander. He suggested that when it did we repeat a centering word. It could be most any word, but we were told to use something that was calming. In eastern cultures it is called a mantra.

A centering word or mantra isn’t just for prayer or meditation. We can control our harmony or vibrations through thought. If we take up a new thought , we find that our entire system responds to the change, and attunes itself to the keynote. For example say “Peace” over a number of times, and insensibly the body relaxes and the nerves are soothed. We become receptive to the harmony, and discord and restlessness melt away.
