Expecting?

First I apologize. My computer during an upgrade crashed completely and is having to be rebuilt. I may lose, applications, e-mails, and documents, but over time I will get it all back and running. Please bear with this transition.

So, the Royal family is expecting, but that news pales to the news that my daughter  is expecting her third child this spring. Even though it will not be a new experience for them, preparing for a child involves a lot of work — preparing the room, preparing the other children, etc. Caroline also has to take care of herself physically. They also have to  do some serious internal work, both individually and as a couple. It doesn’t get easier. They have to set aside fears and prepare their anxious and weary selves for what is forthcoming. They have made another lifetime commitment of spirit and intention.

Advent reminds us of that same lifetime commitment made when we were baptized. We open our hearts and our home to a lifetime of the Christ child being part of our family, and all that means. It means that we open wide our hearts and home to his living with us for our lifetime. It means preparing our body and soul for his constant presence, and each Advent we ask ourselves how do we prepare for him to be a significant part of our lives for the next year.
