Tough and Tender

There are some days you wake-up and are really glad to be alive. Today is one of those days. There are those who believe that to be a follower of Christ you must be a weak and compliant. A former football player doesn’t fit the image. But being tough, even tough-minded, and being tenderhearted are not inconsistent. When we separate the head and the body from the heart, we are the lesser for it.

We can love God with our heart, with our brain, and our body. When the heart, the mind, and the body work in concert, a loving rationality pervades all we do. This working in concert brings unity and balance to us and glory to God.

Editor’s note: Thank you all for your wonderful happy birthday wishes. May we share many more years together. W.
