Chance Encounters

Luke 24:15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing.

Ever looked back on something and thought what a great opportunity you had, but you hadn’t realized it at the time. Recently, a few of my teammates have been exchanging e-mails about how football and recruiting has changed, but it’s caused us all to realize again all the fun we had and yes sadly of a few opportunities lost. We lecture our children to enjoy their days in school or starting out, and remind ourselves to be alert.

On the road to Emmaus, two disciples encounter a stranger, but it is only later do they recognize that the stranger was the risen Jesus. We often realize too late that God was in our midst, but didn’t recognize his presence. Lent is a wonderful season to heighten our awareness and to be ever vigilant for chance encounters with God. Look amongst the honeysuckle.
