Thursday After Ash Wednesday

I found it an appropriate coincidence that on this Valentine’s day, my morning readings all had the same theme. For instance John 4:16 – “God is love, and those who dwell in love, dwell in God, and God in them.” Book of Common Prayer – Page 324 – “ … Thou shalt love thy God…. Thou shalt love thy neighbor.” And it is only fitting as we begin the Lenten season that we begin with the bottom line, the unifying principle behind all our efforts — Love.

When we look at something to give up or take on, we ask — does it teach us love, does it reflect our love of God or our neighbor, does it take me down a loving path. If our goal during Lent distracts us from love, perhaps we need to rethink or redirect. This Lenten season let love dominate your self, your work, your family, and become your overriding attitude. What a wonderful Valentine’s gift you will give to God, your self, and your fellow man and woman.
