Peace

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. – Matthew 5:6

Grant us thy peace, down from Thy presence falling,

As on the thirsty earth cool night-dews sweet;

Grant us thy peace, to Thy pure paths recalling,

From devious ways, our worn and wandering feet. – E. Scudder

Even as we meditate and pray, we cannot turn a  blind eye to the events surrounding us and speak and act accordingly. Have you ever thought seriously of the meaning of Christ’s blessing given to peacemakers? He is not talking about making peace when we get to heaven. Whatever peace we “are blest for,” must be for our actions here on earth – not for the taking of arms against, but for the building nests amidst a sea of troubles. Difficult, yes! Yet, we want liberty, we want money, we want respect, we want comfort, but first and foremost we must want peace and if our actions are not directed that way we are lost.

Today, let’s search our hearts and souls for peace. It is in individual hearts and souls that peace begins.
