Gratitude

Though shalt rejoice in every good thing which the Lord thy God hath given thee – Deuteronomy 26:2

Rejoice evermore. In everything give thanks. – 1 Thess. 5: 16,18

I know people who spend a moment every day thanking God for something in their lives. I’m not that disciplined, but I should be. George ( my new liver and the name of my donor, although I didn’t know it when I named him) is reason enough to develop the discipline. Gratitude consists in a watchful, minute attention to the particulars of our being, and to the multitude of gifts, taken one by one we have received. Gratitude fills us with consciousness that we are loved, in my case by so many. When we awaken the feeling of gratitude in our spirit, the heart beats with thankfulness. Every gift is returned with praise, and we develop an attitude of thanksgiving. We become filled with a gladness, serenity, and peace that only thankful hearts can know.
