God’s Shade

The Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. – Psalms 121:5

This weekend the sun was out, and on Mother’s day we took a walk in the park with Caroline, Jeremy, and the “Yingling Three” – Lila, Rebecca, and Frannie. On occasion, the shade of Freedom Park’s beautiful trees was most welcome, a relief from the bright sun. Later that evening after a dinner of BBQ chicken, we retired to the shade of our front porch and an evening breeze. Sound nice? It was.

One way we recognize a “special moment” and God’s presence in it, is the feeling of calmness and peace of mind. The same feeling I get when I find refreshment in the shade. Events come with the moment; but God is always there as well. If the moment is one filled with light we experience God’s joy in his creation. If the moment is dark and stormy, God is present and our hearts remain untroubled. The presence of God is like a quiet chapel in the cool of a summer evening. When we enter the chapel we are cooled and are at rest.
