Parenthood

I’m convinced that our relationship with God is a lot like a parent and a child. Perhaps, that’s why he is most of the time referred to as Father. And like most children there comes a time when we have to let go of telling the child what to do and hope that all the lessons we tried to drum into our children take. And like most children we are stubborn and think we know what is best. Perhaps that’s what is known as free will.

It doesn’t mean we don’t worry about our children, much like I believe God worries about us. It doesn’t mean we still can’t offer advice to our children, just like God gave us a conscience and examples, such as Christ. And yes, no matter how much our children stray and disobey we still love them, just like God loves us. On occasion we still step in no matter how independent our children have become, just like God does. I could go on and on, but you get my point.

Every now and then I am overcome with the emotion of Love when I see my children and grandchildren. At that moment I am gaining a glimpse of what God’s love for me is like. It’s damn special.
