Tuesday In the Fifth Week of Lent

I never loved another person the way I loved myself. — Mae West
You have to  hand it to Mae. She was honest. I’m afraid she sums up many of us as well, we are in love first and foremost with ourselves.
Our Lenten discipline of service to others begins a turnaround in our lives. When we reach out to others in love, and to focus on others, we are also learning how to love ourselves.
I am not suggesting we live our lives through others, that can be a huge mistake. Wisdom has taught me that lesson the hard way. It means we invite others into our lives, and by so doing we are asking to be part of their lives, as well. Service makes room for others in our lives.
When we serve others we learn more about ourselves than any self-analysis can accomplish.
