A Time To Heal

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Eccl. 3:1

I can’t read this verse without starting the sing the Pete Seeger song Turn, Turn, Turn made famous by The Byrds. I’ve given you the link in case you want to sing along.

If anything the entire book of Ecclesiastes fills a necessary role, warning against human hubris and preserving divine mystery.

I turned to Eccl. 3:1 to make sure that the chapter contains the words “a time to heal.” It most certainly does, but it doesn’t place the burden of healing on any one person or group.

I heard at my weekly breakfast a lot of discussion about anger, fear, and divide. Observations in the media about Tuesday’s election are dominated by these words. I am an equal participant, yet my heart tells me that season of divide, anger, and fear is past, and now it is a time to heal.

My heart also tells me that it is not just the job of our leaders to bring us to the time of healing, but it is my job and everyone’s job, as well.

It is a time to ask myself how do I help my fellow humans heal, because I know the path to healing myself lies in the healing of others.
