Ceasing Hatred

For months perhaps years, I’ve wondered where all this hatred is coming from, but I’ve been asking the wrong question.
I should have been asking how does all this hatred cease.
I’ve noticed that where there are differences often those differences grow into hate, and I’m not just talking about differences in opinion.
This growth from difference to hate puzzles me because we were all taught to celebrate differences.
How and why did a celebration grow into hatred? But again perhaps that’s the wrong question, I should be asking how does it cease.
Buddhist wisdom teaches that hatred never ceases hatred, but only by love.
Perhaps this why Christ emphasized loving our enemies.
Is it possible that hatred ceases only when we love someone, when every bone in our body calls out for hatred for that same someone.
Often love is much harder than hate, but love is the only way hatred ceases.
