I get publications on a regular basis from Forward Movement including Forward Day by Day. In the latest batch I got a book titled Faith With A Twist, a 30 day journey into Christian Yoga. Now don’t worry I am not about to start teaching Yoga at the Hubbell Pew. I have enough trouble getting up and down on a mat once a week, but the delivery got me thinking, “What is going on?”
I read recently that Western Christianity is in a state of collapse. Some say we need more churches, different forms of organized worship, and more gospel linked to prosperity. Others talk about more introspective, more getting away from organized religion, and more personal mining of the truth. I suspect the new Yoga book is part of the latter.
Now where I come down on all this is uncertain. I do know that my daily meditations are a poor attempt to bring forth the wisdom of God, the light of God that is at the heart of my being. But I’m not ready to abandon the Church because the old football player in me needs the occasional ass chewing or butt kicking to get motivated and see the error of my ways. A good Luis Leon sermon was often just what the doctor ordered.
Bear with me if over the next few weeks I explore how to live on a few occasions — not to be instructive, no one should follow my lead, but instead to help you frame the questions.
