Gathering Splinters

But many who are first will be last, and the last shall be first. — Matthew 19:30.

I remember the times I sat on the bench. My teammates would play in the game while I gathered splinters. Things did change, but I do remember wishing for that chance to play and show the coach what I could do. Riding the bench is not fun. Matthew provides hope to all who ride the bench in life.

Matthew also reminds all us about humility. We may be on top of the world one day, but circumstances can change in a heartbeat. As I read yesterday, “humility is part of our faith. And it’s a better posture for the soul than pride.”
