In My Own House

Prophets are not without honor except in their own country and in their own house. — Matthew 13:57b

Can you know someone too well? Maybe not, but we have to work a little harder to overlook some things we know and be more forgiving if we are close. Jesus’s words may be why we have the most difficulty accepting accolades or forgiving ourselves. We know ourselves too well.

I wrestle a lot in my prayers and sleep with the person I am, seeing every fault and mistake, over and over. Jesus’s words bring me much needed comfort knowing that honor awaits even if I can’t see it in my own house.
