Princes To Naught

It is he who … brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. — Isaiah 40:22-23.

It is supposed to be true that a roman general or emperor would have a slave standing behind him when processing into Rome saying, “Look behind you, you are only a man.” Reading today’s passages, I wonder if we shouldn’t have Isaiah read at every inauguration and swearing in.

We all get carried away at our own self-importance from time-to-time. My grandmother would say, “he’s too big for his britches.” Therefore is is good to be reminded that we are all equal in the sight of the Lord on earth and in heaven.
