They Ate

They ate and were filled, and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. — Mark 8:8.

When I was a a child, the feeding of the multitudes fascinated me. Had Jesus pulled off the greatest of all magic tricks? How did he do it? As I grew up, I heard many logical explanations such as the multitudes were shamed by Christ’s generosity so they too shared their food. That version is much more logical, but not near as much fun.

Now as I approach my later years, we come up with a different explanation. Jesus sharing the disciples’s food was an act of love and grace. When it comes to God’s love for us there is always plenty to go around. Shouldn’t we share his grace and love with all as well?
