House on Sand

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act will be like the foolish man who built his house on sand. — Matthew 7:26.

I know enough about construction to understand that any building, house, or structure is only as stable as its foundation. If one doesn’t sink the pilings deep enough, if the concrete isn’t reinforced, or if the joints are full of termites, at some point it will all come tumbling down.

Jesus reminds us that the same is true in life. If we hear the words of God but fail to act, life’s raging storms and crashing waves will wash away our base and whatever house we have built will come crashing down.

From time to time, I am reminded to fortify my base. How about you? Is your house built on a solid base or sand?
