Why Did You Doubt

You of little faith, why did you doubt? — Matthew 14:31.

Yesterday’s gospel was the story of Jesus walking on water, calming the seas, and rescuing Peter.

Seeing Jesus, Peter initially had faith enough to make it out on the water, but when the storms appeared he began to lose faith and sink. Jesus saves him and asks, “Why did you doubt?” This would not be the first or last time that one of Christ’s disciples lost faith when the storms of his life showed up.

It won’t be only once for us as well. No matter how strong we think our faith, when the storms occur, we falter and doubt. No matter how violent the storms in our life, this story is here to remind us that Jesus is always there to rescue us and saying, “Do not be afraid.”
