Perfection

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. — Matthew 5:48.

A troubling text indeed. There ain’t know way I am going to be perfect, no hard I try. In fact, getting out of the bed is a major feat these days.

When I come upon a troubling text like this I am reminded of Luis cautioning us about context. I wish I could remember one of his best expressions about context. It will come to me after I finish my musings. But, in this case Christ is talking about love, unconditional love. The kind of love that God has for us whether we are perfect or not. The kind of love that loves our enemies as completely as those who smother you with love.

So when Christ tells us to be perfect he is reminding us to make our love perfect, the best we can.
