Don’t Worry

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. — Philippians 4:6.

St. Paul provides several Lenten messages in very few words.

He repeats Jesus’s message that we need not be anxious — simply, turn our anxieties and worries over to God. But Paul adds a little twist. He reminds us to pray our worries to God with “Thanksgiving.” He reminds us to be grateful at the same time we are asking God to intervene. What Paul knew and we discover if we follow his guidance is that when we begin our discussion with God with gratitude, we will often be overcome with peace and contentment. Like magic, we realize or problems aren’t so bad after all. There is nothing like a little “Thanksgiving” to calm a troubled soul.
