Not Worthy

The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.” — Matthew 8:8.

For me, the above verse is one of the most powerful passages in the Bible and an important lesson unto itself.

A roman centurion who could have ordered Jesus around, humbles himself instead. No matter, how much wealth, power, and public accolades we acquire, God’s grace is still not dependent on our earning it. I have, most of us have fooled ourselves into believing that material acquisition and earthly recognition somehow will earn us God’s love. It doesn’t work that way.

We approach God figuratively on our knees, knowing we are not worthy, but with faith in God’s love and mercy.
