Houseless

“The Son of Man had nowhere to lay his head” (Luke 9:58b).

Today’s reading reminded me of my daughter, Kelley, and countless others who have lost their homes due to recent hurricanes. Kelley’s Asheville home, damaged by Hurricane Helena, is undergoing repairs, and she hopes to return this week. She considers herself fortunate, recognizing that many will never return home.

Asheville’s homelessness crisis has been exacerbated by the hurricane. Communities across the nation grapple with providing housing for those who have nowhere to go. More importantly, we must treat our homeless community with compassion rather than disdain.

While I don’t have a solution for everyone, as a child of God, I can’t ignore this problem. My daughter will soon be home, but many brothers and sisters remain homeless. God calls us to find a place for them to rest their heads.
