He asked them, “But who do you say that I am.” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.” — Mark 8:29.
“But who do you say that I am?” Jesus asked. Peter, after walking alongside him, sharing meals, witnessing miracles, and listening to his teachings, didn’t just recite what others said. He spoke from the heart: “You are the Messiah.” This wasn’t secondhand knowledge; it was the deep conviction born from intimate connection.
Think about your closest friendships. Those bonds where you understand each other without words, where you anticipate thoughts and feelings. These relationships aren’t built overnight. They’re cultivated through shared experiences, vulnerability, and time. Just like Peter with Jesus, these friendships deepen our understanding of who another person truly is.
God invites us into this same kind of intimate relationship with him. Not a distant, formal acquaintance, but a close, personal friendship. This isn’t something that happens passively. It requires intentional effort – spending time in prayer, reflecting on his teachings, and opening our hearts to his presence. The reward? A relationship that transforms us, revealing the true nature of God and our own place within his love.
