Lenten Season Is Here

Lent’s quiet approach caught me off guard this year, but I’m determined to enjoy one final, golden pancake before Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025, ushers in the season of sacrifice and reflection. The beauty of Lent lies in its diverse expressions, each faith and family weaving their own tapestry of observance.

Shrove Tuesday’s pancake tradition, a prelude to Lent, harkens back to the practical need to use up flour, eggs, and butter before the fast. It’s a cherished moment of indulgence for me.

For two decades, since 2004, I’ve shared daily Lenten meditations through The Hubbell Pew (TheHubbellPew.com), a free community where we explore faith together. Please join us for the season.

My personal Lenten practice is a four-fold path: prayer, sacrifice, service, and study, a tribute to Christ’s time in the wilderness. This year, I’m contemplating a fifth element: non-violent protest, a challenging but compelling addition.

We’ll navigate the intricacies of Lent—feast days, Sundays, and the inevitable “slip-ups”—together. More importantly, let’s embrace this season with mindful intention. I encourage you to find a “Lenten partner,” as I did with Razor and Breeze during my sabbatical. Their fresh perspective enriched my journey that year.

In a world grappling with uncertainty, Lent offers a grounding force, a chance to rediscover the essentials of faith. Trust that God will illuminate your path no matter how you participate.
