With each passing year, the importance of balance becomes increasingly clear. We tread stairs with a newfound caution, walk with a mindful gait, and if we’re lucky enough to still enjoy sports, we learn the wisdom of restraint. We also discover the delicate equilibrium needed for a fulfilling life, finding harmony between work, play, rest, and the cherished connections with family and friends.
Lent, a forty-day journey of discipline, invites us to examine a deeper balance – the balance of our spiritual lives. It’s a time to practice prayer, embrace sacrifice, engage in study, and extend ourselves in service, hoping that these disciplines will become woven into the fabric of our everyday existence. Being an old football player, I like to envision Lent as a spiritual “spring practice,” a period of renewal that blossoms into lasting spiritual growth.
Well said, Webb. Sure don’t miss those wet grass drills, though.
