Feed the Hungry and Cure the Sick

Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, “The Kingdom of God has come near you.” — Luke 10: 8-9.

This isn’t just a verse; it’s a blueprint for transformation! How easily we, both as those who lead and those who follow, allow the clamor of the world to drown out the pure, resonant call of what truly matters. Time and again, the New Testament shines a light on Christ’s non-negotiable priorities: to fill empty bellies and mend broken bodies. It’s a truth so simple, yet from the pinnacles of political power down to our very neighborhoods, we seem to possess an uncanny ability to sideline God’s divine imperatives, choosing instead to chase after our own fleeting, often destructive ambitions.

Feel the ache in your soul when you contemplate the staggering reality: colossal portions of our collective wealth funneled into the machinery of war, while millions starve. Every single year, the coffers for destruction swell, yet the essential nourishment for humanity’s most vulnerable diminishes. Can we truly look away from this moral chasm? It is indeed “The Great Divide.”

And the sacred work of healing? We offer glimmers of healthcare for the struggling, but does anyone truly believe that the solace of quality care isn’t inextricably linked to the cruel realities of financial standing? God has gifted us the boundless wisdom of modern science, a miracle in our hands. Are we, however, truly dedicating “all that we have” – every ounce of our ingenuity, every resource – to eradicate the torment of cancer, the heartbreak of heart ailments, and the countless diseases that rob us of life and joy?

The next time a politician approaches you, their words carefully crafted, their hand extended for your support – and they will – seize that moment. Look them in the eye and with unwavering conviction, ask: “Where does your heart truly guide your priorities?” And if their unwavering answer isn’t a passionate commitment to feed the hungry and heal the sick, then let your conviction be your guide, shaping your response into a powerful statement of what truly matters.
