How often have I tried to convince someone to change their ways, or have had someone try to change mine. We are all experts in what the other person needs or should do. If only our spouse, child, friend, co-worker, or enemy would take our advice. As a nation, as a community, and even as church we involve ourselves a lot in changing the next person.
I need to remind myself when the urge to reform my neighbor consumes my thoughts, that it is not persuasion or environment that changes a life, but the awakening of its own innate energies. These alone have the power to renew the purpose, vitalize the will, and guide the destinies that we are helpless to control for one another.
