I went to my car the other day and the battery was dead. After a few not so nice words about best laid plans, I called AAA and not long thereafter I had a brand new battery and the car is running fine. The incident reminded me that the older the car the more one has to take care of it with tune ups, check ups, and an occasional spare part.
The same applies to humans. I for example have had more than my share of replacements and check ups. I may not be able to play football or jog, but I still get around and my brain functions quite well, thank God. With autos and appliances there comes a time when you have to replace the old, but humans are not capable of trading in for a newer model. We go till we drop, much like a couple of cars I owned when I was much younger.
What’s my point. First, I am very grateful for my replacements and the surgeons who did their magic. Second, it is reminder to quit grumbling about my check ups and doctor visits. Third, I occasionally need to tell myself to take better care. Spare parts and tune ups are simply part of the bargain for life.
