Call My Name

Sorry I’ve been out of touch. I had a health hiccup last week, but now I am improving and back in front of the computer keys.

Jesus said to her, “Mary!” — John 20:16.

Jesus calls her name, and all of a sudden Mary realizes that the man who was asking why she was crying is indeed Jesus. Sometimes we run into someone in a different place than we expect and we do not recognize them at first. The context is different. Then they say or do something that brings back our memory. Certainly if a friend dies we don’t expect him or her to show up and ask why we are mourning.

There is something special about being called by our given name, especially when the caller is God. We have that kind of relationship with God if we choose. He talks to us as if he is our oldest friend, which in a way God is. Next time you talk to God listen closely and you will hear him call your name.
